Group company Plastratum, specialists in surface finishing systems and effluent treatment plant, are incredibly proud that one of their recent effluent treatment projects has been shortlisted in the Environmental category for the 2023 Surface Engineering Association awards.

The project

A major aerospace manufacturer required 5cu.m/hr, 24/7, 840cu.m per week deionised water to a standard of <20μScm-1 for operations on a new Blue Etch Anodise NDT line, also designed, built and installed by Plastratum.

The ion exchange equipment was manufactured on skids at their Birmingham site to site reduce installation time.

The filtration vessels, ion exchange vessels, pipework and valves were designed using 3D CAD and assembled by Plastratum’s expert engineers.

The tanks required for the system were manufactured by Plastratum to BS EN 12573 and BS EN 13121. All manufacturing was completed under the Plastratum ISO 9001:2015 quality policy.

Project outcome

Discharge to foul sewer reduced by 96.14%, saving over 43,000m3 water per year and an annual saving of £86,000.
